Privacy Policy
Welcome to our Privacy Policy. Your privacy matters to us, and your use of our website means you agree to how we handle your personal information. This policy covers what data we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe. We believe in transparency, so you’ll find everything explained clearly below. If you have questions or need clarification, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Section 1: Acceptance of Terms
Joyce Doss | Life Unscripted™ (referred to as “Life Unscripted,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you visit our website and use our services (including our WooCommerce-powered online shop, digital content, and email newsletters). Personal information in this policy means any information that identifies, relates to, or could reasonably be linked with you or your household. We follow core privacy principles – for example, we only ask for the personal information we need, and we don’t share or sell your information except as described here. By using our website or providing information to us, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use our services. We may update this Policy from time to time and will post any changes with a new “Last Updated” date – your continued use of our site after we make changes will signify your acceptance of the updates.
Section 2: Information We Collect
We collect standard personal data necessary to provide our services, such as processing orders and email opt-ins, and do not intentionally collect any sensitive personal data (e.g., social security numbers, health information). The types of information we may collect include:
- Contact and Identity Information: When you make a purchase or sign up for our newsletter, we collect information like your name, email address, billing address, and shipping address (physical products are shipped within the U.S. only). If you create an account, we also collect your login credentials (username and password). We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under the age of 13 (see Children’s Privacy below).
- Order and Payment Information: When you place an order for a product or service, we collect details about the items purchased and any preferences necessary to fulfill your order. Payment information (such as credit/debit card numbers or PayPal account email) is collected and processed via our third-party payment processor (e.g., PayPal) for security – we do not receive or store full financial account numbers on our servers. For example, if you choose to pay with PayPal, you will either be redirected to PayPal or provide information via a secure PayPal form; in either case, PayPal acts as an independent data controller for your payment information (please refer to the PayPal Privacy Statement for details on their data practices).
- Transactional and Shipping Information: Details about your orders, such as products purchased (digital downloads or physical goods), purchase dates, and any returns or refunds. For physical product orders, we collect information needed to ship your order, such as your shipping address and (if required by the carrier) your phone number. This information is used only to fulfill your purchase and deliver your items.
- Communication and Inquiry Information: If you contact us with a question, request, or feedback (via email, contact form, or phone), we will collect the information you choose to provide in that communication (such as your name, email address, and the contents of your message). This may include any personal information you submit when seeking customer support or consulting with us. We use this information to respond to you, to keep records of our communications, and to improve our services based on your feedback.
- Email Newsletter Information: If you opt-in to our mailing list or other marketing communications, we will collect your name and email address (and any preferences you indicate). This information is used to send you our newsletter, updates, and promotional offers. We rely on your consent for email marketing, and you can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link in our emails or contacting us (see Your Rights & Choices below). MailerLite powers our email marketing, so your email address and name are stored on their platform to facilitate our communications; MailerLite only processes your data on our behalf in accordance with our instructions and their privacy policy.
- Automatically Collected Data (Usage and Device Information): Like most websites, we use cookies and similar tracking technologies to automatically collect certain information about your device and how you interact with our site. This may include:
- Technical Data: Your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, and referring website. For example, our site may log your IP address and browser user-agent string when you visit. This information helps us diagnose technical issues, ensure security, and optimize compatibility with your device.
- Usage Data: Information about your browsing actions on our site, such as the pages or products you view, the features you use, the time and date of each visit, and how long you spend on pages. We may also collect information on how you arrived at our site (e.g., via a search engine or a link) and how you interact with our marketing emails (such as whether you opened an email or clicked a link). This data helps us understand which content is most interesting to users and improves our website and marketing efforts.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: Cookies are small data files placed on your device when you visit a website. We use first-party cookies (set by us) and third-party cookies (set by service providers like Google) to remember your preferences, keep you logged in to your account, and collect analytics information. For instance, cookies help us track items in your shopping cart and recognize you when you return. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings; however, please note that if you reject cookies, some features of our site (like the shopping cart or account login) may not function properly. For more details on our use of cookies and how to manage them, see Cookies & Tracking Technologies below.
- Information from Third Parties: In general, we collect personal data directly from you. We do not purchase personal information from data brokers or enrich profiles with third-party demographic data. However, we may receive some information indirectly. For example, if you interact with our content on social media (such as commenting on our page or messaging us). In that case, we may receive your social media username and any other information you have made public on that platform. Also, if an affiliate partner or referral program is involved (for instance, if someone referred you to us), we may receive confirmation of your signup or purchase for the purposes of crediting the referrer (limited to necessary details like your name or email). We advise you to review the privacy policies of any platforms or partners you engage with to understand how they handle your data.
You may choose not to provide certain personal information. For example, you can browse our site without creating an account, or you may decline to share optional data. However, if you choose not to provide information that is needed to make a purchase or join our mailing list, we may not be able to fulfill your order or include you in our newsletter. Visitors can always refuse to supply personal information, with the caveat that it may prevent them from engaging in certain site-related activities.
Section 3: How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for the following purposes, which we ensure are aligned with applicable data protection laws and your expectations:
- To Provide Products and Services: We process your personal information to fulfill contracts with you, such as when you make a purchase. This includes processing and shipping your orders, delivering digital products or content, and providing any services or courses you have signed up for. For example, we use your shipping address to send you physical goods and your email to deliver digital downloads or confirmations. We also use your information to provide customer support, handle returns or exchanges, and ensure you receive the products or services you ordered.
- To Process Payments and Transactions: We use your information to collect payments and process transactions for purchases or paid services. This includes transmitting your payment details to our payment processor (e.g., PayPal) and validating successful payment. If there are any issues with payment (such as a chargeback or refund), we will use your contact and transaction information to resolve them. Credit card and other billing information is handled securely by our third-party processor and not stored on our servers.
- To Communicate with You (Service and Account Communications): We may use your contact information (email, phone number) to send you service-related messages about your transactions. For example, we will email you order confirmations, shipping notifications, receipts, and any important updates about products you’ve purchased or changes to our services. If you have an account with us, we might also contact you regarding account management matters (such as password resets or notifications about your account status). These communications are necessary to provide our services and are not promotional in nature.
- To Send You Newsletters and Marketing Offers: With your consent (or as otherwise permitted by law), we use your email address to send our newsletter and occasional promotional communications about new products, special offers, or content that we believe may interest you. We strive to tailor these messages to be relevant – for instance, we may send you offers related to products you’ve purchased or content you’ve shown interest in. You can opt out of marketing emails at any time (see Your Rights & Choices below), and we will honor your opt-out requests promptly.
- To Provide Personalized Advertising (Google AdSense): Our website displays advertisements through Google AdSense. AdSense may use cookies and similar technologies to serve you ads based on your visits to our site and other sites on the Internet. This means you might see targeted ads that Google believes will be of interest to you based on your browsing behavior. For example, if you viewed certain pages on our site, you might later see an advertisement for our products on another website. Please note: We do not use advanced retargeting tools like the Facebook Pixel or TikTok Pixel on our site, and we do not share your data with those platforms for advertising purposes. All advertising cookies on our site are primarily related to Google AdSense (and Google Analytics, described below). If you prefer not to receive personalized ads served by Google, you can adjust your ad personalization settings (see Cookies & Tracking Technologies for opt-out options).
- To Analyze and Improve Our Website and Services: We use data (particularly aggregated and analytics data) to understand how our users use our site and how our business is performing. Specifically, we use Google Analytics to collect information about traffic and user interactions on our site. This helps us learn which pages are most visited, how users navigate our content, what marketing campaigns are effective, and other usage patterns. We analyze these trends to improve the site’s design, make our content more useful, and develop new features or services. For example, if analytics show that a certain blog post is very popular, we might create more content on that topic. We also use analytics data for internal metrics and reporting (e.g., total site visitors and conversion rates). Wherever possible, we use this information in aggregate form (so it does not directly identify individuals).
- To Ensure Security and Prevent Fraud: We may use personal information (like device/IP information or account activity) to maintain the security of our website, protect against fraud, and debug and fix errors. This includes using certain data to detect and mitigate malicious activities (such as attempted hacking or misuse of our services) and to verify accounts. If we notice unusual activity in an account, we might use the information we have to contact the user or to block unauthorized access. We also reserve the right to use and share information as needed to protect our legal rights, enforce our Terms of Use, or protect our users and customers from harm or illegal activities.
- To Comply with Legal Obligations: We process and retain personal information as necessary to comply with our legal and regulatory obligations. For example, we keep transaction records to satisfy accounting and tax requirements, and we may need to use or disclose certain data in response to valid legal requests or to comply with laws (such as providing information to law enforcement or regulators when required by law or honoring consumer privacy rights requests). If we are involved in a legal dispute, we may use relevant personal information to establish our rights or defend against claims.
- To Run Our Internal Business Operations: Finally, we may use personal information for legitimate internal business purposes such as auditing, data analysis, debugging, research, and improving our products and services. For instance, we might use purchase history data to evaluate which products are performing well or to manage inventory. We may also anonymize or aggregate personal information so that it no longer identifies you and use that data for any purpose (for example, to generate statistical insights or marketing reports).
We will not use your data for purposes that are incompatible with the above without notifying you and obtaining your consent when required.
Section 4: Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR Notice)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to process your information:
- Performance of a Contract: We process personal data as necessary to perform our contract with you. This includes all processing related to providing the services or products you requested – e.g., using your name and address to ship your order or your login details to provide account access. Without this information, we cannot fulfill our contractual obligations to you.
- Legitimate Interests: We process personal data as needed for our legitimate business interests, so long as your data protection rights do not override those interests. Our legitimate interests include improving and personalizing our services, understanding how customers use our site, securing and protecting our services, and marketing to our customers. For instance, analyzing site usage via Google Analytics helps us improve user experience, which is a legitimate interest in running and growing our business. When relying on this basis, we consider and balance any potential impact on your rights and have safeguards to protect your privacy.
- Your Consent: In certain cases, we rely on your consent to process your personal data. For example, we will obtain your consent before sending marketing emails (where required by law) or before using non-essential cookies and similar technologies for advertising or analytics in jurisdictions that require consent. If we ask for your consent, you have the right to withdraw it at any time. For instance, you can withdraw consent to marketing by unsubscribing from our emails, and you can withdraw consent to analytics/advertising cookies by adjusting your cookie settings (withdrawing consent will not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal).
- Legal Obligation: We also process personal data to comply with legal obligations to which we are subject. This includes retaining records as required by law, responding to government or law enforcement requests where we are legally compelled to do so, and fulfilling obligations to allow individuals to exercise their data rights. For example, if you purchase a product, we may be required by tax laws to keep a record, including your billing details, for a certain period. Processing personal data for these purposes is necessary for us to meet our legal responsibilities.
We will normally only rely on consent or legitimate interests as a basis for processing personal data, not strictly required for a contract or legal obligation. Where we rely on legitimate interests or consent, you have the right to object or withdraw consent as described in Your Rights & Choices below.
Section 5: Cookies & Tracking Technologies
We and our third-party partners (like Google) use cookies and similar tracking technologies to provide our services, analyze usage, and deliver personalized content and ads. This section explains these technologies and your choices.
- What Cookies Are: Cookies are small text files stored on your device by websites you visit. Cookies contain information that is transferred to your device’s hard drive. They serve various purposes: enabling website functionality, remembering your preferences, and collecting information about your interaction with the site. For example, we use cookies to keep you logged in as you shop and to remember items in your cart. We also use cookies to understand how users navigate our site, which helps us improve the design.
- Types of Cookies We Use: We use both session cookies (which expire when you close your browser) and persistent cookies (which remain on your device until they expire or you delete them). Session cookies enable core site functionality as you navigate page to page; persistent cookies allow us to recognize you on return visits and remember your preferences (such as your language or any items left in your cart). Cookies set by us (first-party cookies) are mainly for running our online store and site (e.g., WooCommerce uses cookies to keep track of cart data). Cookies set by third parties (third-party cookies) enable analytics and advertising features provided by those external companies.
- Analytics (Google Analytics): We use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to collect information about how visitors use our website. This includes data like the pages you visit, how long you stay, how you arrived at our site, and what you click on. Google Analytics helps us measure site traffic and usage patterns so we can improve content and performance. The information generated by these cookies (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States (or other countries where Google has data centers). Google will use this information on our behalf to compile reports on website activity and provide other services related to internet usage. We have configured Google Analytics to partially anonymize IP addresses where possible. We do not use Google Analytics to collect personally identifiable information; we only receive aggregate data. For more details on how Google Analytics uses data, you can review the Google Privacy Policy. If you wish to opt out of Google Analytics tracking, Google provides a browser add-on for opt-out (see Your Choices below for more on opting out).
- Advertising (Google AdSense): Our site uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your visit to our site and other sites on the Internet. These cookies enable Google and its partners to show you relevant ads (“interest-based ads”) by tracking your browsing activity. For example, if you visit pages on our site about a certain topic, Google may later show you ads related to that topic. We have enabled Google’s “personalized ads” in order to earn revenue that supports our site, but we do not share any additional personal data with advertisers beyond what Google collects through the AdSense cookies. This Privacy Policy covers our use of cookies. Still, please note it does not cover how those third-party advertisers may further use the information collected via cookies for their purposes. You can control how Google uses your information for ads (including opting out of personalized ads) by visiting Google’s Ad Settings page.
- Your Choices for Cookies: Browser Settings: Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can usually modify your browser setting to decline cookies or alert you when cookies are being sent. Consult your browser’s help documentation to adjust cookie preferences. Please be aware that disabling or deleting cookies may affect the functionality of our site; for instance, if cookies are disabled, our site’s shopping cart and login features may not work properly. Opt-Out Options: For Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, which prevents Google Analytics from collecting information on your visits. For Google AdSense and other Google advertising cookies, you can opt out of personalized ads by visiting Google’s Ads Settings. Additionally, the Network Advertising Initiative offers an opt-out page (at http://optout.networkadvertising.org) where you can opt out of many targeted advertising cookies from participating companies.
- “Do Not Track” Signals: Some web browsers and devices offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting you can enable to signal your privacy preference not to be tracked across sites. Currently, there is no uniform industry standard for recognizing or honoring DNT signals. As such, we do not respond to Do Not Track signals or similar mechanisms sent by browsers. We will continue to monitor developments around DNT and may re-evaluate this policy if a standard emerges. Regardless, remember you can manage cookies as described above to control online tracking.
- No Facebook or Third-Party Retargeting Pixels: As noted, we do not use Facebook Pixel, TikTok Pixel, or similar third-party retargeting scripts on our site. That means we are not sending your data (such as email or browsing behavior) to social networks or other platforms for targeted advertising beyond the cookies described above. If this changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy accordingly and obtain any necessary consent.
For more information on cookies and how they work, you can visit websites like AllAboutCookies.org for general guidance.
Section 6: How We Share or Disclose Your Information
We value your privacy and do not sell your personal information to third parties for money or other valuable consideration. However, in the normal course of running our business, we do share your information with certain third parties under the circumstances described below. In all cases, we share only the information that is reasonably necessary for the third party to perform its function, and we contractually require service providers to protect it and use it only for those purposes. The categories of third parties with whom we may share personal information include:
- Service Providers (Processors): These are trusted third-party companies that perform services on our behalf and need access to personal information to carry out their tasks. They include:
- Payment Processors: As mentioned, if you make a purchase, your payment details are handled by our payment provider (e.g., PayPal). We share the necessary transaction details with PayPal to process your payment (such as your order total, currency, and billing info). If you choose a PayPal payment option that is embedded or linked on our site, you are either providing your information directly to PayPal or instructing us to share it with PayPal to complete the transaction. PayPal processes your personal data as an independent controller under their own privacy policy. We recommend you review PayPal’s Privacy Statement to understand how they handle your data. We do not receive your full financial account numbers from PayPal, only confirmation of payment or necessary identifiers to record the transaction.
- Email Marketing Provider: We use MailerLite to manage our email newsletter and marketing campaigns. If you subscribe to our mailing list, your name and email address are stored with MailerLite so that we can create and send newsletters and manage subscriptions/unsubscriptions. MailerLite acts as a data processor, meaning they only use your information as needed to send our communications as instructed by us. They do not use your email for their own purposes. We have a data processing agreement in place with MailerLite to safeguard your data.
- Website Hosting and Infrastructure: Our website is hosted by third-party hosting providers, which means the information you provide through our site (including personal data) is stored on their servers. These providers allow our website to operate and be accessible on the Internet. We ensure our web host has appropriate security measures and will not access or use your data except as needed to maintain the site. Similarly, we may use other infrastructure or IT service providers (for things like data backup, cloud storage, content delivery networks, etc.) who might process data incidentally in the course of providing their services to us.
- Analytics and Advertising Partners: As described in the Cookies & Tracking section, we use Google Analytics and Google AdSense. Google Analytics acts as our analytics provider; it collects usage data and provides us with aggregated reports. In this role, Google is a data processor but also an independent controller for some data because it may use the data for its own analytics purposes. We have accepted the Google Data Processing Terms, which limit Google’s use of site data. Google AdSense and its advertising partners receive information (via cookies or similar) about your device and browsing behavior to serve ads. For example, Google (as an ad vendor) receives your IP address and cookie identifiers when ads are loaded on our site. These third parties might use or combine this data to provide you with targeted advertising across the web. Please refer to Google’s privacy and advertising policies for details on what data they collect and how they use it.
- Shipping Partners: If you purchase physical products, we share your shipping name and address (and phone number if required for delivery) with the postal or courier services we use (for example, USPS, UPS, or other delivery companies) so they can deliver your package. These third parties are authorized to use your personal information only as needed to perform the shipping service (e.g., to deliver packages and communicate tracking updates).
- Other Vendors: We may also use other specialized vendors for functions such as customer support, live chat, survey administration, or website development. If any of these vendors need personal data to perform their work, we ensure they access only what is necessary. For instance, if we have a customer support ticket system managed by a third party, the information you provide in a support request (like your email and issue description) would be stored on their system to allow our support team to respond. All such vendors are bound by contracts to keep your data confidential and secure.
- Business Transfers: If we ever sell, merge, or transfer our business or assets, personal information may be disclosed as part of that transaction. For example, if Life Unscripted or substantially all of its assets are acquired by a third party, customer information (which could include your personal data) is typically one of the assets transferred to the new owner. The new owner would likely continue to use your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy (unless you’re notified of changes). Similarly, if we are involved in a reorganization or bankruptcy proceeding, your information may be transferred to our successor or assign. In any such transfer, we will use reasonable efforts to ensure the recipient honors the commitments we have made in this Privacy Policy regarding your personal data.
- Legal Compliance and Protection of Rights: We may disclose personal information when required to do so by law or when we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to comply with a legal obligation or valid legal process. This includes responding to subpoenas, court orders, warrants, or governmental requests served on us. We may also share information if we believe it is necessary to investigate, prevent, or take action regarding illegal activities, suspected fraud, situations involving potential threats to the safety of any person, or violations of our Terms of Use or other agreements. In other words, if disclosure of certain data will help protect the rights, property, or safety of Life Unscripted, our customers, or the public, we may do so (for example, by providing information to law enforcement to assist in an investigation). Such disclosures will be made only in accordance with applicable laws.
- With Your Consent or At Your Direction: We may share your personal information with third parties when you expressly consent to or request such sharing. For instance, if you use interactive features on our site that involve sharing information with others (such as posting a product review or sharing content to social media), any information you voluntarily submit for that purpose will be visible to the intended audience. Similarly, if you ask us to share your information with a third-party service or platform (for example, if there’s a promotion or collaboration and you opt-in to share data with that partner), we will do so with your direction. In such cases, we will make clear at the time what information will be shared and with whom, and we will only proceed with your consent.
Other than the categories listed above, we do not disclose your personal information to third parties. In particular, we do not give or sell your personal data to outside companies for their own marketing or advertising purposes. We also do not engage in any practices that constitute a “sale” of personal information as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) (meaning we don’t exchange your personal data for money or other valuable consideration for the third party’s independent use). If this ever changes, we will update this policy and provide California consumers with a means to opt out of such sales.
Finally, when we do share information as described above, we strive to do so in a secure manner. All service providers that handle personal data on our behalf are vetted for their security practices and are under contractual obligations to protect your information. We also utilize data transfer agreements (such as standard contractual clauses) where necessary when sharing data across international borders (see International Data Transfers below).
Section 7: International Data Transfers
Joyce Doss | Life Unscripted™ is based in the United States, and our website is operated from the U.S. If you are accessing our services from outside the U.S., please be aware that your personal information will likely be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other jurisdictions where our service providers are located. The data protection laws in these countries may be different from (and less protective than) the laws in your country of residence.
However, whenever we transfer personal information out of its country of origin, we take steps to ensure it remains protected. If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, for example, we will rely on legal mechanisms approved under applicable law to legitimize data transfers, such as:
- Standard Contractual Clauses: We may implement the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses (SCCs) with our service providers to contractually require that your personal data receives a level of protection equivalent to that provided in the EEA. These clauses impose data protection obligations on the recipient of the information.
- Data Privacy Framework: We are monitoring the new EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (and UK/Swiss extensions). If we or any key service providers become certified under these frameworks, we will rely on those certifications for relevant transfers. (As of the Last Updated date of this Policy, we have not yet self-certified to the framework.)
- Your Consent: In some cases, we may rely on your explicit consent to transfer your information internationally. For instance, by using our site and providing information, you acknowledge that your data will be transferred to the U.S. (which is necessary to provide our services to you). Where allowed, your decision to use our services implies consent to international transfer for the purposes explained in this policy.
We have put in place appropriate safeguards, as required by applicable law, to protect personal data transferred internationally. If you would like more information about these safeguards, you can contact us using the information in the How to Contact Us section below. We will happily provide additional details regarding how we ensure adequate protection for data transfers.
Please note that our primary data storage and processing activities occur in the United States. By using our site, you understand that your personal information will be sent to and stored in the U.S. (and potentially in other countries where our third parties operate). These countries may have data privacy laws that are different from those in your home jurisdiction. Rest assured, regardless of where your data is processed, we handle it securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
Section 8: Your Rights & Choices
We respect your privacy rights and provide you with reasonable access to and control over your own personal information. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have some or all of the following rights regarding the personal information we hold about you:
- Right to Access: You have the right to request confirmation of whether we are processing your personal information and, if so, to obtain a copy of the personal data we hold about you. This is sometimes called a data access request. For California residents, the right of access includes the right to request that we disclose certain details about our data practices, including the categories of personal information collected, the sources of that information, the business purpose for collecting it, and the categories of third parties with whom we share personal information. We will provide the information in a portable and easily accessible format, either to you or (if technically feasible) to a third party at your direction (this fulfills the GDPR “data portability” aspect).
- Right to Rectification: You have the right to request that we correct or update any of your personal information that is inaccurate or incomplete. We encourage you to notify us if any of your information changes or if you believe we have incorrect data. For example, if you have an account, you can update certain information directly by logging in. Otherwise, contact us, and we will make the correction where possible.
- Right to Deletion: You have the right to request the deletion or erasure of your personal data in certain circumstances. For instance, if the data we hold is no longer necessary for the original purpose, or if you withdraw consent (where the processing was based on consent), you can ask that we erase your data. We will honor deletion requests to the extent required by applicable law. Do note that this right is not absolute – sometimes, we must retain certain information to comply with legal obligations or legitimate interests. If that is the case, we will inform you of the specific reasons we cannot fully honor a deletion request (for example, we might retain transaction records as required for tax and accounting purposes despite a deletion request).
- Right to Restrict Processing: You have the right to request that we limit or “pause” the processing of your personal information in certain situations. For example, if you contest the accuracy of your data, you can request a restriction on processing until we verify the data’s accuracy. Or, if you object to our processing based on legitimate interests, you can request restriction pending our review. When processing is restricted, we will still store your data but not use it for the interim except for narrow exceptions (like if needed for legal claims).
- Right to Object: You have the right to object to our processing of your personal information under certain conditions. In particular, you have the absolute right to object to the use of your personal data for direct marketing purposes at any time. For example, if you no longer want to receive marketing emails or newsletters from us, you can opt out (unsubscribe), and we will stop sending them. You also may object when we are processing your data based on a legitimate interest (as our legal basis), and you feel it impacts your rights – we will consider your objection and whether our interests in processing your data remain compelling. If you object to targeted advertising cookies (which involve the processing of your data), you can also utilize the opt-outs described in Cookies & Tracking Technologies above to object to such processing effectively.
- Right to Withdraw Consent: If we rely on consent for any processing of your personal information, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. For example, you can withdraw your consent to marketing emails by unsubscribing or withdraw consent to cookies by adjusting your browser settings or using the provided opt-outs. Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing conducted prior to the withdrawal, and it will not affect the processing of your data under other legal bases (for instance, we may still process data needed for performing a contract or for compliance with a law).
- Right not to be Subject to Automated Decisions: We do not currently make any decisions that significantly affect you based solely on automated processing (without human involvement). However, if that changes, you would have the right not to be subject to a decision based purely on automated processing that produces legal or similarly significant effects. You would also have the right to human intervention and to contest the decision. (This right primarily applies under GDPR in contexts like credit scoring or profiling decisions; as noted, our processing of your data in the present state does not involve such automated decision-making.)
- California Privacy Rights: If you are a California resident, you have certain additional rights under the CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) and CPRA. These include the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information (as defined by California law), the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information (though we do not collect sensitive personal info as defined in CPRA), and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising except in connection with the AdSense cookies (which you can opt out of as described above). If, in the future, we were to engage in any activity deemed a “sale” or “sharing” under California law, we would implement a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” mechanism on our site to honor California consumers’ choices. We also confirm that we will not discriminate against you (e.g., deny you service or charge a different price) for exercising any of these rights.
- Right to Lodge a Complaint: If you believe we have infringed your privacy rights, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory data protection authority. For EU/EEA residents, this would be your local Data Protection Authority (DPA) in the country where you live or work or where the issue occurred. For example, in the UK, it’s the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). We ask that before lodging any formal complaint, please consider contacting us first so we can address your concerns directly – we take privacy complaints seriously and will do our best to resolve the issue.
Exercising Your Rights: To make any request regarding your personal data (access, correction, deletion, etc.), please contact us using the information in the How to Contact Us section below. Please clearly describe your request – for example, what information you would like to access or which information you want corrected or deleted. For your privacy and security, we will need to verify your identity before fulfilling certain requests (typically by confirming information we already have on file and/or requiring a request from the email associated with your account or purchase). Verification is to ensure we do not disclose or erase someone else’s data improperly. There is no fee for making a request, though if a request is excessive or repetitive, we may charge a reasonable fee or decline to respond as allowed by law. We will respond to legitimate requests within the timeframe required by law – generally within 30 days for most rights or 45 days for California requests (with the possibility of a 45-day extension). If we need an extension or cannot fulfill your request, we will let you know the reason (for example, if we cannot delete data that we must keep for legal reasons, we will inform you).
Opting Out of Marketing: Even if you do not formally exercise a privacy right as described above, you can always control our use of your data for marketing. If you no longer wish to receive our newsletter or promotional emails, you can opt out at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of any marketing email we send. Once you opt-out, we will remove you from the mailing list (please allow a short time for the removal to take effect). You may still receive transactional or service emails from us (such as purchase confirmations or responses to customer service inquiries), which are not marketing messages. If you have any issues unsubscribing or you receive unwanted communications from us, please let us know, and we will rectify the situation.
Managing Cookies and Advertisements: As detailed in Cookies & Tracking Technologies, you have choices to manage how cookies collect your data. You can refuse or delete cookies via your browser settings. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the opt-out browser add-on. You can opt out of personalized ads from Google by using Google’s Ads Settings or industry opt-out tools. Keep in mind that even after opting out of personalized ads, you may still see ads – they just won’t be tailored using cookies on your browsing behavior. Also, browser cookie preferences are device-specific, so if you clear cookies or switch devices/browsers, you may need to set your preferences again.
We are committed to upholding your rights. If you have any questions about your privacy rights or need assistance exercising them, please contact us.
Section 9: User Responsibilities
We kindly ask that you also take certain steps to protect your privacy and help us keep your information accurate and secure. As a user of our site or services, you are responsible for:
- Keeping Your Account Secure: If you create an account on our site, you are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. Please choose a strong, unique password and do not share it with others. Notify us immediately if you suspect any unauthorized access to your account. We are not responsible for any loss or damage arising from your failure to safeguard your account information adequately.
- Providing Accurate Information: You agree that any personal information you provide to us is true, accurate, and up-to-date to the best of your knowledge. For example, using an accurate shipping address and a valid email ensures we can deliver your orders and communicate with you. If your information changes (such as your contact details), please update it in your account or notify us so we can update our records. We cannot be liable for issues or delays caused by outdated or incorrect information provided by the user.
- Consent When Sharing Others’ Data: If you choose to provide personal information about someone else (for example, if you purchase a gift to be sent to a friend and provide their name and address, or if you refer someone to our services), you are responsible for ensuring you have the other person’s permission to share their personal data with us. We treat any such information in accordance with this Privacy Policy, but you should only submit someone else’s data if you are authorized to do so.
- Use Caution in Public Forums: If our website offers any public areas – such as blog comments, discussion forums, or social media pages – remember that any information you post or disclose in those areas is public. For instance, if you leave a comment on our blog or submit a testimonial, that information may be visible to other visitors. We cannot control how other viewers might use that information. This Privacy Policy does not apply to information you voluntarily make public. Please be mindful not to share sensitive personal details in public areas of our site or on third-party social media platforms. We encourage you to use pseudonyms or limit the personal details you share publicly for your own protection.
By following these guidelines, you help protect your own privacy and allow us to keep our services running smoothly and securely. If you have questions about how to protect your privacy or about any security issue, feel free to reach out to us.
Section 10: Children’s Privacy
Our services are not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years old. If you are under 13, please do not provide any personal information to us – this includes not registering an account, making purchases, or submitting personal data through any forms on the site. We encourage parents and legal guardians to monitor their children’s Internet usage and to help enforce this policy by instructing their children never to provide personal information without permission.
If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take prompt steps to delete such information from our records. If you believe that a child under 13 may have provided us with personal data, please contact us so that we can investigate and delete it.
For teens and minors over 13: If you are between 13 and 18 (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction), please ensure you have your parent or guardian’s permission to use our site and do not provide personal information without that consent. Some products or content we offer may be intended for adult audiences (for example, self-improvement courses or life coaching content), so if you are not of legal age to form a binding contract, you should only use our services with the involvement of a parent or guardian.
Section 11: External Links
Our website may contain links to third-party websites or services that we do not operate. For example, we might link to articles, external resources, or our social media pages on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. If you click on a third-party link, you will be directed to that third-party’s site. We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third-party websites or services. We encourage you to review the privacy policy of every site you visit. This Privacy Policy applies solely to information collected by Life Unscripted through our own website and services. If you visit an external site or engage with third-party services (even those linked or recommended by us), their rules and policies will apply to any information you provide to them. We are not responsible for the protection of any information you share on those external sites. Please exercise caution and read the privacy statements of such websites.
Additionally, if you choose to engage with us on social media (such as by visiting our official pages or profiles or by using social sharing features), remember that any information you post or share via those platforms is subject to the privacy policies of those platforms (e.g., Facebook’s Data Policy, Instagram’s Terms, etc.). We may receive some information about your social media profile if it’s public or if you interact with our pages, but we only use it for the purposes of engaging with you on those platforms (for example, responding to a comment you left for us).
Section 12: Data Security
We implement a variety of security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, use, alteration, or disclosure. These measures include technical, administrative, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the data. For example, our website uses HTTPS encryption (SSL/TLS) to secure data transmitted between your browser and our site. We store personal data on secure servers or systems that are protected by firewalls and access controls. We also limit access to personal data to those employees, contractors, and service providers who need to know it to operate, develop, or improve our services, and they are subject to confidentiality obligations.
While we strive to protect your information, no security system is impenetrable. The transmission of information via the Internet is not completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data transmitted to our site. Similarly, no method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, you understand that any data you transmit to us is at your own risk. However, once we receive your data, we will use strict procedures and security features to try to prevent unauthorized access. We also maintain and regularly review our cybersecurity practices to improve resilience against new threats. This includes keeping our software up-to-date, using anti-malware protection, and conducting periodic security audits or assessments.
If we ever experience a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by law. We ask that you also do your part by using unique, strong passwords and protecting your account credentials (as noted in User Responsibilities). If you suspect any security vulnerability or incident involving our services, please contact us immediately.
Section 13: Data Retention
We will retain your personal information only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes we collected it for, including any legal, accounting, or reporting requirements. The exact duration we keep data depends on the type of information and the reason we collected it. For example:
- For customers who make a purchase, we will retain personal data related to your order (such as your name, contact info, and purchase history) for as long as needed to process the transaction, provide any applicable warranty or customer support, and for a reasonable period thereafter in case of questions or disputes. Transaction records are generally kept for at least the period required by tax and financial laws (which can be several years).
- If you have an account with us, we will keep your account information while your account is active. You may request the deletion of your account, in which case we will delete or anonymize the personal data associated with your account (unless we need to keep it for a lawful reason, as explained).
- If you subscribed to our newsletter or consented to marketing, we will retain your contact information until you opt out or unsubscribe, or until we decide to stop sending newsletters. Upon unsubscribing, we may keep your email on a suppression list to ensure we honor your opt-out going forward.
- If you contact us with an inquiry or support request, we may retain those communications and our response for a period of time in case we need to reference that information (for instance, if you had an issue that requires follow-up).
- Website logs and analytics data are retained for a shorter period (often 14 to 26 months for Google Analytics data by default, unless we configure otherwise) and are primarily used in aggregate form.
When we have no ongoing legitimate need or legal requirement to process your personal information, we will either delete it or anonymize it so that it can no longer be associated with you. If deletion or anonymization is not immediately feasible (for example, because the data is stored in backup archives), we will securely store the data and isolate it from any further processing until deletion is possible.
Please note that even after you delete your account or ask us to erase your personal data, we may retain some information if necessary for our legitimate business interests, such as fraud prevention or safety (for example, we might retain a record that you had an account to prevent re-registration by someone who was removed for misconduct). We may also retain and use your information to the extent necessary to comply with our legal obligations (for instance, keeping records of transactions for financial reporting) or to resolve disputes and enforce our agreements.
Section 14: Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may modify or update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal requirements or for other operational reasons. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the updated Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date at the top. If we make material changes that substantially affect your rights or how we process your personal information, we will take additional steps to inform you, which may include posting a prominent notice on our website or contacting you via the email address we have on file. Where required by law, we may also seek your consent to major changes.
We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about our data practices. Your continued use of the website or our services after any changes to this Privacy Policy have been posted will constitute your acknowledgment of the changes and your agreement to be bound by the updated policy. Remember that, to the extent permitted by applicable law, the Privacy Policy governs our use of information in effect at the time we collect the information. We will not make retroactive changes to how we handle previously collected personal data without obtaining any required consent.
If you do not agree with any updates or changes to the Privacy Policy, you should stop using our services, and you may contact us if you wish to have your data removed as per your rights.
